On that day China received a grim reminder
They have a… complicated history. Best not to ask, Connie.
"Hey Eren, what’s a titan’s favourite thing to eat?"
"I don’t know, Jean. What’s a titan’s favourite thing to eat?"
I’m still reading and gathering information to wrap my head around everything that’s going on right now. (I literally got in thirty minutes ago) But keep in mind that I’m dead tried and you probably should’ve asked someone who has had the joy of actually being able to read and afford comic books.
First off, some people just don’t like Whedon. They believe he fetishizes (that’s not a word?) petite, strong females as leads and is all around not inclusive as a writer. They also don’t like how he kills people and feel like it’s more of an emotional tug to make his writing seem good rather than it actually being good. My opinion on this is irrelevant, but this information is important to know
some ofwhy people are calling him out specifically.
And I only say that, because of how many people are involved in film making. In a minor defense, Joss isn’t the only person in charge. He writes the script, yes, but there are a lot of other people involved that need to approve changes and such. And there is a completely different casting director on top of that, but those decisions are also made with several people. I’m not defending their decisions, but I am saying that you can’t burn one person, because this was a group effort.
Now, read this. Mal talks about the comic book version of Wanda and then Elizabeth Olsen’s casting and how it is very different. Mal has actually had the honor of, you know, reading the comic books. So. Yeah.
Look at this post from a blog dedicated to Wanda.
Basically it’s just a disagreement and backlash against whitewashing, and also a few jabs about blonde, white women.
Ouch, guys. That are kinda totally called for.
I’m conflicted about this, because I’m fully aware that we don’t have enough information yet, but I also know that this is messed up. Another part of me isn’t surprised and doesn’t know why everyone is outraged at something that was bound to happen. (Still fucked up, just not a shock.)
And, sadly, I want to defend the man who wrote all of the diverse and wonderful character’s in Firefly that made me excited to write so many different kinds of people from different lifestyles and complex lives. I’d like to say Joss didn’t do anything wrong here and defend a man I’ve looked up to growing up, but.
There isn’t much to defend other than saying that he isn’t the only one involved here and it’s not fair to put all the blame on his shoulders. That being said, he deserves some blame, yo.
Wanda and Pietro remind me of Jamie and Cersei from GOT.
